Monovisc delivers the highest concentration of pure HA with a single injection, which is 88mg.
Monovisc aims to improve the rheological properties of the synovial fluid, thereby promoting mechanical, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and chondroprotective effects. 94% of patients responded positively to pain reduction, stiffness, and physical function at 39 weeks.¹
Mechanical effectÂ
Monovisc is highly hydrophilic and binds well to water, producing a viscous, jelly-like consistency that provides lubrication and acts as a shock absorber within the joint, quickly improving the mechanical characteristics of the joint by improving lubrication and cushioning. Â Typically in an arthritic joint where the joint surface is roughened, this extra lubrication and cushioning helps to prevent further accelerated wear
Protective Effect
Monovisc has a biomechanical structure that protects cartilage by surrounding chondrocytes (cartilage cells) and allowing them to do their job of supporting the repair of your cartilage. During arthritis, these cells are no longer supported and stop their repair process. This is something that naturally slows down with age with treatments such as Monovisc help to support them for longer.  Hyaluronic Acid injections have been shown to delay knee replacement surgery by an average of around 4 years.²
Analgesic effectÂ
Monovisc diminishes nerve impulses and the sensitivity of nociceptive nerve endings so helps to further dampen pain responses for a much longer period of time.³
Longer lasting
The molecular weight of Monovisc is optimised to stimulate the joint’s own hyaluronic acid. This means that once the effects of the injectate start to reduce, there is an overall improvement in synovial health as Monovisc stimulates the joint’s own HA production.
Indications
Monovisc is indicated as a viscoelastic supplement or a replacement for synovial fluid in human knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle joints. Monovisc is well suited for the treatment of the symptoms of mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle joints for patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics. In clinical studies, Monovisc has been proven to have a duration of effect of at least six months and a second injection six months after the first injection was shown to be safe
